Is Assassin’s Creed 3 Announcement Imminent?

WARNING: CONTAINS RUMOURS THAT MAY BE SPOILERS ABOUT AN UPCOMING ASSASSIN’S CREED TITLE.

Could Assassin’s Creed 3 be announced within Q1 (January – April) of 2012?

According to CVG, “a source close to the project” has revealed both the Q1 announcement date, plus details that the game will be set during the American Civil War. With the ending of the stories of Altair and Ezio Auditore in Assassin’s Creed: Revelations last year, the “source” also confirms that there will be a new Asssassin.

It was already known that a new Assassin’s Creed was due out in 2012, as people high up in Ubisoft had talked a little about it, but the title has yet to be officially announced.

If what this source claims is correct, that the game will be set in a completely different time (the 18th Century), a completely different world (New York?) and a new Assassin, it leads to speculation that the next Assassin’s Creed will be the awaited third installment of the series. (with Brotherhood and Revelations being extensions of ACII)

In a survey of Assassin’s Creed fans by Ubisoft, “The confrontation between British colonists and native Americans during The American Revolution” was one of the optional answers for a question about where and when the next Assassin’s Creed should be set.

Ubisoft Chief Exec, Yves Guillemot, previously claimed that the next Assassin’s Creed title would be the “biggest to date”, again adding to the speculation that it will be Assassin’s Creed 3.
